Thanks Josep for this lovely cover from Catalonia franked with three stamps from a booklet made up of 8 self-adhesive stamps (date of issue : January 2, 2013) devoted to monumental arches and gates in Spain.
Le premier timbre représente l'arc romain de la cité de Caparra, non loin de la ville de Caceres en Estremadure.
The first stamp shows the Roman Arch of Cáparra in the ancient city of Cáparra (Cáceres), located in the Roman Via de la Plata. The arch has four gates, each facing a cardinal point. It is the only one of its kind that exists in Spain and it is set on solid pillars of stonework.
La deuxième figurine est consacrée à l'arc romain de Medinaceli dans la province de Soria qui donnait accès à la ville.
The Roman Arch of Medinaceli is located in Medinaceli (Soria) and was built in late 1st century as a Roman triumphal arch that gave way into the city.
Enfin, située à l’endroit où se tenait l’une des cinq portes d’accès à l’ancienne ville fortifiée, la porte de Castilla à Tolosa au Pays Basque date du XVIIIe siècle. De style néoclassique, l’arc n’est plus relié à aucune muraille.
The Puerta de Castilla, in Tolosa (Guipuzcoa) dates from the 18th century and stands in the original setting as one of the five gates that gave access to the old walled city. It is of Neoclassical style and has remained a one-arch gate.
